Resumo

Nidification of Ramphastos dicolorus (Linnaeus, 1766) (AVES: Ramphastidae) in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. Ramphastos dicolorus (Ramphastidae), known as the Green-billed toucan, is a characteristic species of southern and southeastern Brazil. Little is known about its breeding in natural environments. In this article, we are going to present certain aspects of this specie’s breeding behavior, based on the observations of two nidifications, in consecutive reproductive seasons in the same nest hole. The observations were carried out in the municipality of Almirante Tamandaré, Paraná, from December 2007 to January 2008, and November 2008 to December 2008. The nidifications were watched from the moment the nest was found through to the departure of the nestlings, and the nests monitored every two or three days. Based on photographic records, we were able to describe the nestlings throughout their growth. The current study represents an advancement in what is known about the natural history of this Ramphastos.
